Cheesy Christmas Tree Bread garnished with herbs and cheese, festive treat

A whimsical holiday treat featuring fluffy dough and melty mozzarella, perfect for family gatherings.

  • 13 ounces canned refrigerator pizza dough
  • Parchment paper for lining baking sheet
  • 67 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 large egg (+ 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • ½ tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 jar marinara and/or pesto for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Roll out the pizza dough and cut it into approximately 30 equal squares.
  4. Slice the mozzarella cheese sticks into 30 bite-sized pieces.
  5. Place a piece of mozzarella into each square of dough and roll it into a ball, sealing the edges tightly.
  6. Arrange the dough balls in the shape of a tree on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Mix the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the mixture on each dough ball.
  8. Bake for 16-18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. While baking, melt the butter and stir in half of the grated Parmesan cheese, garlic, and herbs.
  10. Brush the garlic herb butter mixture over the rolls after baking, sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese, and serve with marinara and/or pesto.

Notes

For a more elegant finish, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before serving. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
