Easy Avocado Dressing: A Deliciously Simple Recipe

Easy Avocado Dressing

A creamy, healthy avocado dressing perfect for salads, bowls, or as a veggie dip. This vibrant green dressing comes together in just minutes with fresh ingredients and no mayo!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large ripe avocado (about 1 cup mashed)
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream)
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, packed (optional)
  • 24 tbsp water (for consistency)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cumin (optional)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop avocado flesh into a blender or food processor.
  2. Add yogurt, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro (if using), salt, pepper, and spices.
  3. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down sides as needed.
  4. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached (thicker for dip, thinner for dressing).
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning with more lime juice or salt if needed.
  6. Transfer to an airtight container and press plastic wrap directly on surface to prevent browning.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

  • Storage: Keeps for 2-3 days in refrigerator (color may darken slightly but still tastes great)
  • For vegan version: Substitute yogurt with 2 tbsp tahini or omit entirely
  • Variations: Add jalapeño for spice, or swap cilantro with dill for different flavor profile
  • Uses: Excellent on taco salads, grain bowls, or as a sandwich spread
  • Tip: The lime juice helps prevent browning – don’t skip it!
