Easy Christmas Spritz Cookies

Batch of easy Christmas spritz cookies on a festive plate

Delicate, buttery cookies shaped using a cookie press, perfect for holiday gatherings and gift-giving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Stick of Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 1 Stick of Margarine (softened)
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Heaping tsp Baking Powder
  • Optional: Gel food coloring for festive colors

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure that your butter and margarine are softened but not melted for easier mixing.
  2. Cream the Butter and Margarine: In an electric mixer, combine the softened unsalted butter and margarine. Beat on medium speed until fluffy and light in color, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add Sugar and Eggs: Gradually add sugar a half-cup at a time, alternating with the eggs. Beat well after each addition until creamy and smooth.
  4. Incorporate Flavorings: Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, ensuring everything is well blended.
  5. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Carefully fold the flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture a little at a time to avoid overworking the dough until smooth.
  7. Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
  8. Load Your Cookie Press: After chilling, load your spritz cookie press according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  9. Press and Decorate: Press the cookies onto an ungreased baking sheet and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles if desired.
  10. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the cookies for about 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Cool and Enjoy: Let the cookies cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
