  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for crumb topping)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for crumb topping)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (for crumb topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare dry ingredients by whisking together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract and sour cream until smooth.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, stirring until just combined, then fold in diced apples.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Make the crumb topping by mixing flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter until crumbly.
  8. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  9. Cool cake for 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving.
