A flavorful and comforting Beef Teriyaki dish made with fresh ingredients and a homemade sauce that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 12 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry, for thickening)
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch or potato starch (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds, thinly sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: Whisk together water, soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced ginger, and minced garlic in a small bowl, and add the cornstarch slurry.
  2. Slice the beef against the grain into bite-sized strips and pat dry.
  3. In a bowl, coat the beef with cornstarch until well-coated.
  4. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over high heat and add the beef. Cook for about 2 minutes per side until browned.
  5. Lower the heat, add the sauce, and stir until thickened (about 3-4 minutes).
  6. Serve over rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

Make sure to slice the beef against the grain for maximum tenderness. Don’t overcrowd the pan to maintain high heat.
