  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, at room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely. Frost as desired and enjoy!

For maximum fluffiness, ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
