Creamy & Caramelized Burnt Cream French Toast

A decadent breakfast dish featuring buttery brioche soaked in a rich custard and topped with a crispy caramelized crust.

  • 1 loaf of brioche or French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Slice the brioche or French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the bread slices, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Melt the unsalted butter and brush a baking dish. Layer the soaked bread slices and sprinkle the brown sugar over the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving with toppings like fresh fruits or syrup.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
