Irresistibly Cheesy Ramen Noodles

A nostalgic and creamy dish that elevates instant ramen noodles with rich cheese and savory flavors, perfect for chilly evenings or cozy meals.

  • 1 package (3 oz) Instant Ramen Noodles
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ cup Milk (whole recommended)
  • 2 slices American Cheese
  • ½ cup Shredded Cheese (sharp cheddar or similar)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Chopped scallions or chives (optional garnish)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional garnish)
  • A soft-boiled egg (optional garnish)
  • A drizzle of chili oil (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add the block of instant ramen noodles and cook for about 3 minutes until al dente. Drain and reserve ¼ cup of the starchy water.
  2. Return the empty pot to low heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Stir in ½ teaspoon of garlic powder and cook for about 30 seconds.
  3. Pour in ½ cup of milk and the reserved starchy water. Whisk gently for 1-2 minutes without boiling.
  4. Turn off or lower the heat and add 2 slices of American cheese and ½ cup of shredded cheese. Whisk until melted into a smooth sauce.
  5. Add the drained noodles to the pot and toss to coat each strand in the cheese sauce. Season with salt and black pepper.
  6. Transfer to a bowl and add optional toppings such as chopped scallions, toasted sesame seeds, or a drizzle of chili oil. Serve immediately.

Notes

Double the recipe for leftovers and store in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently, adding a splash of milk if necessary.
