Cheesy Taco Hand Pies

Flaky, portable hand pies filled with all your favorite taco flavors – seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, and zesty toppings, all wrapped in buttery pastry. Perfect for game day, parties, or on-the-go meals!

  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced green chiles
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp taco sauce (optional)
  • For Serving:
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Chopped lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Brown ground beef in skillet over medium heat. Drain fat.
  3. Add taco seasoning and water, simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Stir in cheeses, green chiles, and cilantro. Let cool slightly.
  5. Unroll pie crusts and cut into 6-inch circles (about 4 per crust).
  6. Place 1/4 cup filling on one half of each circle, leaving border.
  7. Brush edges with egg wash, fold over, and crimp with fork to seal.
  8. Cut small vents in tops, brush with egg wash.
  9. Bake 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with desired toppings.

Notes

  • For spicier version, add jalapeños to filling
  • Can substitute ground turkey or chicken
  • Make ahead: freeze unbaked pies, then bake from frozen (add 5 mins)
  • Great dipped in queso or ranch dressing
  • Leftovers reheat well in air fryer
