Chocolate Banana Bread

A decadent twist on classic banana bread, packed with rich cocoa and melty chocolate chips. This moist, chocolatey loaf is perfect for using up ripe bananas and satisfies any chocolate craving!

  • 3 very ripe bananas (about 1½ cups mashed)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash bananas until smooth. Stir in melted butter.
  3. Mix in brown sugar, egg, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. In separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra banana flavor, use overripe bananas with brown spots.
  • Can substitute up to ½ cup flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Store wrapped at room temperature for 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
