Deliciously festive cookies with a buttery texture and almond flavor, topped with vibrant red and green sugar crystals.

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Red and green decorating sugar (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix until just combined.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough and shape them into balls.
  7. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them at least 2 inches apart.
  8. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with red and green decorating sugar.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature and avoid overmixing the dough.
