Classic Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies

A delightful recipe for soft and chewy sugar cookies, reminiscent of childhood memories and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons white sugar for decoration

Instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
    3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, white sugar, and egg until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
    4. Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts.

<li Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.

  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass, then sprinkle lightly with sugar.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set but slightly soft.
  • Let cool on wire racks for a few minutes before transferring them to an airtight container.
