Cranberry Orange Sweet Rolls

Delightfully fluffy rolls filled with a heavenly combination of tart cranberries and sweet citrus, perfect for holiday gatherings.

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • 1 packet rapid rise or instant yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, 1/2 cup sugar, orange juice, and spices. Bring to a boil, allowing cranberries to burst for 3-5 minutes, then simmer for 10-15 minutes till thick. Let cool.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter and heat milk to about 110°F. Sprinkle yeast over the milk and let sit for 2 minutes.
  3. In a mixer bowl, combine 3 cups flour, sugar, and salt. Add milk mixture, egg, and orange zest. Beat for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Switch to dough hook, gradually adding remaining flour. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Mix butter, sugar, and orange zest in a small bowl for the filling.
  6. Roll dough into a large rectangle. Spread orange filling, then spoon cranberry filling over it, saving some for drizzling.
  7. Tightly roll the dough into a log and cut into 1 1/2 inch rolls.
  8. Place in a greased 9×13-inch dish. Cover, rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Combine powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, orange juice, and vanilla for glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed orange juice for best flavor. For make-ahead convenience, prepare the dough the night before.
