Spook-tacular Creepy Shepherd’s Pie

A Halloween-inspired twist on the classic Shepherd’s Pie that combines comforting flavors with whimsical fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spooky decorations (olives for eyes, shredded cheese for ghosts, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and vegetables are tender (about 5 minutes).
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and beef broth, bringing to a simmer. Add peas and season with salt and pepper. Let it meld for 2-3 minutes.
  5. While meat mixture simmers, boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until tender (15-20 minutes). Drain well.
  6. Mash the boiled potatoes with the milk and butter until smooth and creamy.
  7. In a greased casserole dish, spread the meat mixture evenly, then top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing it out.
  8. Create spooky designs in the potatoes using a fork.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  10. Decorate with olives for eyes and cheese ghosts. Serve hot and enjoy.
