Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the chicken breasts into bite-sized chunks for even cooking.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper, then gradually whisk in cold water until a thick batter forms.
  3. Heat 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Dip each chicken piece in the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a saucepan, mix orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger over medium heat.
  7. Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken and cook until bubbly.
  8. Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.
  9. Serve hot over steamed rice or with sautéed vegetables.

Notes

For extra flavor, garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions. Leftovers can be stored for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
