The Ultimate Easy Black Bean Burger

A flavorful twist on a classic, these Easy Black Bean Burgers are packed with flavor and make for a satisfying meal for any occasion.

  • 1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (whole wheat or gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup corn
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • Burger buns (whole grain or brioche)
  • Toppings: Lettuce, tomato, avocado, and sauces

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a mixing bowl until mostly smooth but still textured.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, corn, bell pepper, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 1/2 inch thick burger patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  5. Serve the burgers on buns with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For a different cooking method, you can grill or bake the patties at 375°F for about 20 minutes. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
