Easy Microwave Steamed Fish

Microwave steamed fish ready to serve with herbs and lemon.

Easy Microwave Steamed Fish is a quick, healthy, and flavorful dish that requires minimal effort. Tender fish fillets are steamed with aromatics like ginger and green onions, then finished with a light soy-based sauce. Perfect for a busy weeknight or a light meal.

Ingredients

– 1 lb (450g) White Fish Filets

– 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger, grated

– 2 cloves Garlic, minced

– 2 Scallions (Green Onions), sliced (separate white and green parts)

– 3 tablespoons Low-Sodium Soy Sauce

– 1 tablespoon Rice Vinegar

– 1 teaspoon Toasted Sesame Oil

– 1/4 teaspoon White Pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the fish fillets in a microwave-safe dish in a single layer.
  2. Season the fish with salt and white pepper.
  3. Scatter ginger and the white parts of the green onions over the fish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine (if using). Pour over the fish.
  5. Cover the dish with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap, leaving one corner vented.
  6. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily.
  7. Carefully remove from the microwave (steam will be hot) and garnish with the green parts of the onions and optional cilantro or chili.
  8. Serve immediately with steamed rice.

Notes

  • Ensure the fish is evenly sized for consistent cooking.
  • Do not overcook, as microwave power varies; check at 3 minutes for thinner fillets.
  • For added flavor, top with a tablespoon of hot oil after cooking.
  • This method works best with delicate white fish; adjust time for thicker fillets.
