Easy Nacho Cheese Sauce

Creamy and cheesy nacho sauce that’s perfect for dipping, drizzling, and enhancing your favorite snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or plant-based)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Add the flour to the melted butter, stirring continuously with a whisk for about 1 minute to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens up.
  4. Lower the heat and add the shredded cheese, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper, stirring until the cheese melts completely, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve warm over nachos or as desired.

Notes

If storing leftovers, let them cool and keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Reheat on medium-low heat, adding a splash of milk if it thickens too much.
