Easy Spicy Arrabbiata Pasta

A quick and easy pasta dish featuring a spicy tomato sauce that brings flavors of Italy to your table.

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced or minced
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or basil (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 cup reserved pasta water

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes. Adjust consistency with reserved pasta water if necessary.
  4. Season the sauce with salt and black pepper. Combine the drained pasta with the sauce, tossing to coat.
  5. Serve immediately, garnishing with fresh herbs and Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the spice level with more or less red pepper flakes. Pair this dish with a light salad or garlic bread.
