Easy Sugar Cookies

Delicious and nostalgic Easy Sugar Cookies with a perfect balance of crisp edges and soft centers, enhanced with almond and vanilla extracts.

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3/4 cup white sugar for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and white sugar in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until fully blended.
  6. Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  7. Sprinkle sugar on top of each cookie.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  9. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

For extra flavor, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Substitute butter with coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
