Homemade Bread

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups warm water (around 110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture, and stir until the dough begins to come together.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each into a loaf and place in greased pans.
  7. Let the loaves rise again for about 30 minutes, covered with a towel.
  8. Bake the loaves for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 190°F (88°C). Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

For a chewier texture, substitute all-purpose flour with bread flour. Store in a kitchen towel for up to 3 days or freeze for 3 months.
