French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes

A modern twist on the classic French onion soup transformed into hearty sloppy Joes with savory ground beef and caramelized onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 can French onion soup (low-sodium)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns (brioche or whole grain)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the sliced onion to the same skillet and cook until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the French onion soup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Toast the hamburger buns lightly in a separate skillet or oven until golden brown.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture onto the buns, adding cheese if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the beef mixture for up to 3 months.
