Enjoy a vibrant and flavorful take on traditional sushi with these homemade dragon rolls, featuring shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and perfectly seasoned sushi rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 4 sheets nori
  • 1 cucumber, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp or crab meat
  • 2 tbsp sriracha sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to the package instructions, about 20 minutes.
  2. Season the cooked rice with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while warm, then let it cool to room temperature.
  3. Slice the cucumber and avocado into long, thin strips.
  4. Lay a bamboo sushi mat covered with plastic wrap on your workspace. Place a nori sheet shiny side down on the mat.
  5. Spread about 1 cup of sushi rice over the nori, covering about two-thirds of the surface.
  6. Add shrimp, cucumber strips, and avocado along the center. Drizzle with sriracha if desired.
  7. Roll tightly using the bamboo mat, applying gentle pressure to form a cylindrical shape.
  8. Slice the roll into eight pieces with a sharp knife dipped in water, garnish with sesame seeds, and serve.

Notes

Avoid overfilling rolls, and use a damp knife for slicing to prevent sticking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
