Italian Lemon Jam

A vibrant and zesty homemade jam that captures the essence of Italian citrus, perfect for breakfast or as a delightful gift.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium organic lemons (about 1 cup sliced)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon pectin (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lemons: Rinse the lemons under cold water. Slice them thinly, removing any seeds as you go.
  2. Cook the Lemons: In a large saucepan, combine the lemon slices and water. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and allow to simmer for about 30 minutes until tender.
  3. Add Sugar: Stir in the granulated sugar and cook on low heat, gently stirring until fully dissolved (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Thicken the Jam: If using pectin, sprinkle it over the mixture and mix well. Continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the jam thickens.
  5. Jar It Up: Remove from heat, let cool for a few minutes, then pour into sterilized jars while still warm. Seal tightly with lids.
  6. Store: Allow jars to cool completely before refrigerating. Unopened jars can be stored in a cool pantry for several months.

Notes

For best results, remove all seeds and consider using a candy thermometer for the right consistency. Store opened jars in the fridge and use within three weeks.
