Maple Bacon and Caramelized Onion Pizza

A delightful pizza that combines sweet maple syrup, smoky bacon, and rich caramelized onions for a sweet and savory culinary experience.

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • Maple syrup (preferably Vermont pure)
  • Thick-cut bacon (Applewood smoked recommended)
  • Onions (yellow or red)
  • Olive oil (extra virgin)
  • Mozzarella cheese (fresh recommended)
  • Fresh arugula (optional)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by slicing them thinly. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat, add the onions, and caramelize them slowly for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. In a separate skillet, cook the bacon until crispy, then drain on paper towels and crumble once cooled.
  3. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to about 12 inches.
  4. Assemble the pizza by placing the rolled-out dough on a baking sheet. Brush a light layer of maple syrup over the base, add mozzarella cheese, then top with caramelized onions and crumbled bacon.
  5. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. After baking, top with fresh arugula if desired, slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure to keep an eye on the onions while caramelizing to avoid burning. You can also use different toppings or add a swirl of balsamic glaze before serving.
