Maple French Toast Bagels

A delightful hybrid of bagels and French toast, featuring a crispy exterior and a soft, sweet interior infused with cinnamon and maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Butter or cream cheese (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Punch the dough down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center with your finger and stretch it to form a bagel shape.
  7. Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and add the maple syrup. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute per side, then remove using a slotted spoon.
  8. Place the boiled bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let the bagels cool slightly before serving. Toast and enjoy!

Notes

These bagels are freezer-friendly and can be stored for up to 3 months. Reheat in a toaster for a quick breakfast.
