Delicious Neapolitan Pizza Dough

Create your own authentic Neapolitan pizza dough with this easy, beginner-friendly recipe that results in an airy, chewy crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g (4 cups) All-Purpose Flour
  • 325ml (1 1/3 cups) Lukewarm Water
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 7g (1 packet) Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the lukewarm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt while making a well in the center.
  3. Combine and Stir: Pour the yeast mixture—and olive oil if using—into the well. Stir until it comes together into a shaggy dough.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a clean surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the Dough: Punch the dough down, divide into 2 portions, and shape into balls. Let them rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  8. Stretch and Shape: Gently press and stretch each dough ball into a circle (about 10-12 inches in diameter).
  9. Bake the Pizza: Place the shaped dough on parchment paper, top with ingredients, and bake for 7-10 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

Keep the oven door closed during baking for the best rise. Use less toppings to avoid soggy pizza.
