Quick Classic Lasagna

An easy and quick recipe for classic lasagna that brings comforting flavors and memories to the table without the fuss.

  • 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¾ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey/plant-based alternative)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce (about 6 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 16 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (about 4 cups)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions, about 10-12 minutes; drain and rinse with cold water.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until softened.
  4. Brown the ground beef, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and parsley. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, beat the egg and mix in ricotta cheese.
  7. In a baking dish, layer 1 cup of meat sauce, followed by 3 noodles, a third of the meat sauce, half of the ricotta, a third of mozzarella, and a third of Parmesan. Repeat layering.
  8. Top with remaining noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  10. Allow resting for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. This dish can be prepared a day ahead and baked later.
