Mouthwatering Homemade Salisbury Steak

A nostalgic comfort food recipe for homemade Salisbury steak featuring juicy patties and velvety mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup onion, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, and seasoning. Mix gently until just combined; shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add sliced mushrooms and onion to the skillet; sauté until softened and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mushroom-onion mixture, stirring to coat. Gradually add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until thickened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Return patties to the skillet, nestling into the gravy. Simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
  6. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

Use quality ground beef for the best flavor and consider adding a splash of red wine to the gravy.
