  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust for preferred heat level)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef by slicing the flank steak thinly against the grain and tossing it in cornstarch.
  2. Fry the beef in heated vegetable oil until crispy and golden brown.
  3. Reduce the oil in the skillet and sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  4. Add soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes, bringing it to a boil before simmering.
  5. Combine the beef with the sauce, letting it thicken.
  6. Serve hot over cooked rice, garnished with green onions.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace beef with seitan or tofu. Adjust red pepper flakes for desired spiciness.
