Fun and festive Halloween-themed garlic knots shaped like bones, made from soft homemade dough and brushed with a savory garlic butter herb mixture, perfect for dipping in marinara sauce.

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 46 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for garlic butter)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add olive oil and salt to yeast mixture. Gradually mix in flour until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into equal pieces. Shape into bone-like figures.
  6. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake knots for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Mix melted butter with garlic, parsley, oregano, and salt. Brush over warm knots.
  9. Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.

  • Ensure water temperature is correct to properly activate yeast.
  • Shape knots into bone shapes by making knotted ends on each piece.
  • Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
