Ingredients
Scale
4 all-beef hot dogs
4 hot dog buns (brioche or bolillo rolls recommended)
1/2 lb ground beef (85% lean)
1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
1/4 cup water
1 cup shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese
1/2 cup diced onions
1/4 cup pickled jalapeños (plus extra for garnish)
1/2 cup pico de gallo or fresh salsa
1 avocado, sliced (optional)
1/4 cup sour cream or Mexican crema
1 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking beef)
Lime wedges (for serving)
Instructions
Cook the beef: Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain fat, add taco seasoning and water, and simmer for 5 mins. Set aside.
Grill or cook hot dogs: Grill, pan-fry, or air fry hot dogs until charred and heated through (4-5 mins).
Toast buns: Lightly butter buns and toast on a griddle or in the oven.
Assemble: Place hot dogs in buns. Top with seasoned beef, shredded cheese, onions, and jalapeños.
Melt cheese: Broil for 1-2 mins until cheese melts (optional).
Add toppings: Finish with pico de gallo, avocado slices, a drizzle of crema, and extra jalapeños.
Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
For extra heat, use spicy chorizo instead of ground beef.
Swap sour cream for chipotle mayo for a smoky kick.
Vegetarian? Use plant-based hot dogs and substitute beef with black beans or soy crumbles.
