Twisted Christmas Cookies

Deliciously festive cookies with a unique twisted design, perfect for holiday gatherings and family bonding.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • Zest of one medium orange
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 12 tbsp milk, if needed to bind
  • 2 tbsp meringue powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 34 tbsp water
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • Food coloring, as desired
  • Sprinkles/Decorations, to finish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line 2-3 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest until combined.
  4. Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add milk if the dough is too dry.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to ¼ inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters.
  6. Chill shaped cookies on prepared baking sheets for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and cool on wire racks.
  8. Prepare icing by whisking together the meringue powder, lemon juice, and water, then gradually add powdered sugar.
  9. Color the icing and decorate as desired with sprinkles or glitter.

Ensure butter is at room temperature for easy creaming. Use high-quality extracts for best flavor.
