Dutch Apple Pie

A nostalgic Dutch Apple Pie recipe featuring luscious, spiced apples and a crunchy streusel topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for streusel topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (for streusel topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Unroll the pie crust and fit into a pie dish, letting excess hang over. Pour apple mixture into the crust and dot with butter.
  4. Mix flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle streusel topping over the apple filling.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes
